It's Official, The Merrill's Big Day!!

The last couple days have been a whirlwind! First bar results, then David's wedding, and then on Monday Stephen came home and said he was going to be sworn in on Wednesday May 21st at 8 a.m.! We had expected him to be sworn in on June 10th with the rest of the new lawyers in California, however, since Stephen works for the DA they wanted him sworn in before the next pay period and I couldn't argue with that! The office arranged for a judge swear-in Stephen and one other member of his academy, Gypsy. The ceremony was held in a beautiful courtroom in the historic Riverside Courthouse. First Judge Morgan swore them in as attorneys; then the DA himself, Rod Pacheco swore them in as prosecutors. It was a big moment for our family. Moving half way across the country, leaving our little house in Ontario, and being far away from our family was finally at that moment worth it! I am so proud of Stephen and his hard work and perseverance. He really is a good example of setting goals and achieving them!

Later that evening we had a little surprise party for Stephen. Family members gathered for a celebration. We had carne asada and rice & beans from La Tolteca with carrot cake for dessert. It was yummy!

If you ask Parker what his daddy will be doing as a lawyer he has quite the cute answer. He says "Daddy argues issues."

Thanks to everyone for your love and support! It has been a long road, but I am afraid it is only just beginning. Josie said in the car on the way home from the court house "Great now Daddy will be working on cases and not be able to play with us." I think she has been a little scarred from law school and Daddy studying for the bar. Poor girl! Hopefully, at the very least, Stephen will now be able to relax a little more in the evenings and on Saturdays.

Congrats, we've been thinking about you guys. Hope all is going well. Look us up next time you're in Utah.

Hopefully you last longer than I did in the law.

We all knew you could do, Steve. To be honst, I'm kind of jealous you'll be prosecuting. You'll get in the courtroom much more often than I will, even as a litigator. Anyway, we're really happy for you guys. If you're ever near New Mexico, give us a call; we'd love to see you.

Oh, and we've followed your lead and created a blog. We'd love for you guys to check it out:

Talk to you later, ciao.
